U.S. Congressman French Hill
Dear Friends,

Last week, Southwestern Energy announced they would be laying off 600 employees in Arkansas. This is troubling news, and my thoughts are with the employees and families in Arkansas that are affected. The news also speaks to real economic problems we face here in central Arkansas and the need for a pro-growth energy policy.

While we were recently able to lift the 40-year export oil ban, the president continues to reject other commonsense proposals from Congress related to our energy infrastructure and natural gas exports. I remain committed to pursuing energy policies that will increase our energy independence and provide important, good-paying jobs for Arkansans.

As a result of lifting the ban on crude exports, the United States began exporting oil for the first time in 40 years. This development will be important for creating jobs in our oil patch, and because refineries overseas are better equipped to process this light, sweet crude than we are, exporting this oil also will be a benefit for American taxpayers.

Good economic policy is not the only component to securing good jobs for the people of Arkansas. Those who regularly read these posts know that I make a point to discuss education and the need to ensure that all of our children are being guided down a path that increases their chances of success in a professional setting.

In the past two weeks, I have carried that theme with me to my visits to two elementary schools, Landmark Elementary in Pulaski County and H.L. Lubker Elementary in White County. Elementary education is an important building block for success, and encouraging our students that with hard work, dedication, and a plan for success then their potential is limitless is a message I always preach. As your Congressman, I am committed not only to bringing good jobs to Arkansas, but also to making sure that the Arkansans that fill those jobs are highly skilled and highly educated.

Sincerely,

Representative French Hill

Surprise High School Visit

Rep. Hill has organized a series of Google Hangouts with high school seniors throughout the Second Congressional District for the 2015-2016 school year.

Last week, instead of his scheduled virtual discussion with seniors at Bryant High School, Rep. Hill showed up for an in person civics lesson with the class.

Vigil for a Fallen Hero

On Monday night, Rep. Hill was in attendance when hundreds gathered at the State Capitol in Little Rock to honor fallen firefighter Lt. Jason Adams.

Adams, 29, a five-year veteran of the Sherwood Fire Department and a volunteer for the East Pulaski Fire Department was tragically shot and killed during a call earlier this month.
